UE/EEA trained Nurses registration (Ireland)

If you trained in an EU country, as a general nurse, you can apply for automatic recognition of your diploma with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).

The registration process can take 90 days to be completed, so if you're thinking of working in Ireland you should keep this in mind. The NMBI cannot consider your application until they have received all of your documentation and registration fee.

To know all about the registration process for EEA trained Nurses you can visit the NMBI website here.

All applicants outside Ireland will be required to present a certificate of English Language Competence.

NMBI accepts International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic Test and the Occupational English Language Test (OET) as evidence of English language competency.

IELTS (minimum scores):

  • Listening: 6.5
  • Reading: 6.5
  • Writing: 7.0
  • Speaking: 7.0

OET (minimum scores):

  • Listening: C+
  • Reading: C+
  • Writing: B
  • Speaking: B

Please make sure you get the minimum score before sending the test results and keep in mind that they are only valid for two years (after that you will need to repeat the test).
